Welcome to Qtrax
Qtrax.co.za was for many years the homepage for Western Cape Sandboarders and help to those studying for the Comptia Linux+ exam. Qtrax will continue to serve these two communities via the links on this homepage.

Qtrax offers support services with regard to Microsoft, Linux and the Cisco technologies plus network cabling. Qtrax also does Linux training, either Linux+ exam preparation or a one day course that includes notes and a bootable flash drive that installs the latest version of Linux, or runs it from memory. An extract of some of the Linux notes follows. "Kernel versions consist of a major number [currently 3], a minor number [odd number is a development kernel, even number denotes stable kernel] and revision number eg 12. The current [September 2011] stable kernel is 3.0.4 The linux kernel [vmlinuz] is located in the /boot directory, which is loaded into memory on bootup. The init daemon then continues to load other daemons after the boot loaders have been run ie LILO or GRUB [see hereunder]. The init daemon uses the /etc/initab file config to load all other daemons that should be up and running and sets the runlevel. Runlevel 1 is single user mode, 0 is halt, 6 is reboot, 3 is multiuser mode and 5 is graphical multi user mode. The telinit and init commands can change runlevels while the runlevel command reports current runlevel. Inittab entries are in the format “label:runlevel:action:command” The runlevel will determine which rc directory to run and will start [S] or stop [K] all the processes in this directory in number order eg S99local will be started last. The partition table is stored in the MBR which is on the first sector of the hard disk. There are up to four primary partitions, on the hard drive, of which the last may be the extended partition .... ".
